8. Web Template

To finish off our page template for BabyBlue, we inserted a navigation bar at the very top of the page (top level buttons) and went to File | Save As to save as a FrontPage template (see Page 5 for more detail).

The Photo Album page template was pretty easy. In fact, we first created a new page using our just-made BabyBlue page template, then added the photo album table in the middle of the page and saved it as another Page Template.

Now we were ready to create our web template.

First, let's dissect and discuss a typical web template. You may wish to explore your folder of web templates to look at real-life examples. Try using Windows Explorer (right-click on the Start menu and choose Explore) and looking under Program Files | Microsoft | FrontPage | Webs. If you can't find it, run a search on "Webs." 

In your web template folder, you will probably have images (we chose to have ours in the "images" folder), a couple of web pages that make up your web (we have 6), an .inf file and a .map file.

The .inf file stores information about your web template, and the .map file stores information about your web structure. Both of them have the same name as your web template folder, which will usually have the same name as your theme. We'll talk more about the .inf and .map file later.

Note that there shouldn't be anything else in the .tem folder besides your images, web pages, and the .inf and .map files. When you create a web or apply a theme to a web, FrontPage makes a lot of other folders in the web folder, including _images, _derived, _fpclass, _overlay, _private, and _themes. You might want to take a look in your "My Webs" folder to see an example of this.
