About this Theme Package

The Blue Nebula theme package is extremely popular, thanks to the slick embedded Flash animation and HTML-editable Flash text. The web template comes with a "splash" page with a short Flash intro (with three taglines editable in the HTML) that automatically takes the viewer to the "Main Page." A static graphic is also included as an alternative to the Flash movie. The web template also includes tons of helpful support text to help you use FrontPage to create a great web site along with "info boxes" made to compliment the layout. This theme package has been tested to work in Internet Explorer, Netscape 4.7, and Netscape 6.

Installing

This theme comes with an Installer that will automatically install the theme and template files into the correct places on your computer so that you can access them from FrontPage. After downloading the .exe (usually to your desktop), double-click it to run the installer (make sure FrontPage is closed). Please go to "How to Use" to see what to do after you have installed your template and to make sure that your installation has succeeded.

Troubleshooting

If the installation fails, you can still place your files manually.

  1. First, create a new temporary folder on your desktop. Right-click on the .exe file and select "Extract To..." Browse to your new temporary folder and extract the files there.
  2. Now open Windows Explorer and go to the new folder. You will see some various files and folders. The folders will be labeled for the version of FrontPage that you are using (fp2000, fp2002). Go ahead and open the folder that corresponds to your version of FrontPage.
  3. You will see three folders: Pages, Themes, and Webs. In each of these folders is another folder:
    • Pages\bluenebula.tem
    • Themes\blue-nebula
    • Webs\bluenebulafla.tem
  4. Right-click on the inner folders (bluenebula.tem, blue-nebula, window_box.tem) and select Copy. You will want to Paste these inner folders to:
    • Pages\bluenebula.tem >> C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Templates\1033\Pages\bluenebula.tem
    • Themes\blue-nebula >> C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Themes\blue-nebula
    • Webs\bluenebulafla.tem >> C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Templates\1033\Webs\bluenebulafla.tem

On rare occasions when you have the installer icon on your desktop and are trying to run it, the installer fails because you have another program named the same as ours somewhere on your computer that is running instead of our installer. In this case, just make a new folder on your desktop, drag the .exe into the folder, and try to run it from there.

How to Use

After you have run the installer, open FrontPage. You may now use the template to create a new web:

  1. Go to File > New > Web (FP2000) or File > New > Page or Web (FP2002). In FP2002, click "Web Site Templates" in the right column.
  2. Choose the "Blue Nebula" template. If the Blue Nebula template does not show up in your list of templates, the installation may have failed. Check the locations in Step 4 above to see if the files are there. If not, follow the directions above.
  3. After choosing the "Blue Nebula" template, specify the location for your new web. Click OK. FrontPage will now make your web!
  4. Open one of the pages and go to File > Preview in Browser. You may choose Internet Explorer. This will help you to see what the web will look like in a browser. If the navigation buttons do not show up and the font is not "Verdana," then the theme may not be applied. Go back to your web template and go to Format > Theme. Choose the Blue Nebula theme and make sure that the "All Pages" radio button is selected and that "Active Graphics" and "Vivid Colors" are checked. Click OK to apply the theme to your web.
  5. Still in your browser, go to the "Support > Read Me" page to view an index of all the topics covered in this web template. There are a lot of support topics covered already in the text of this web template, and you may want to read carefully through the web template to learn how to add pages, delete pages, rename pages, edit the Flash text, etc.
  6. One last thing: Do not drag on the table lines of this theme! This will cause your page to "freeze" so that it no longer resizes properly.

Can I change the font, text size, color, animation of the Flash? Can I insert my own logo into the Flash?

Unless you have Flash 5, you cannot edit anything except for what the text says. If you do have Flash 5 and want to edit the movie, we can send you the .fla. Otherwise, please contact us for custom work at support@johngaltstools.com.
